Spending

Some points from this evening's translation of yesterday's post hadra dars (greatly condensed and paraphrased):
The worst Sufi is the stingy sufi. And the worst of the stingy Sufis are those who don't spend on their families.
The best charity is the one given from one's excess wealth; the wealth that is in excess of one's needs such as savings. To say "I'll give this charity" with the consequence that the family have to not eat for a time is not the best charity.
Giving of one's time is like giving of one's money. This includes fulfilling the right one's family has over one to good campany: spending time, showing love, care, and concern. Spending all one's time and nights out (on the town, with the boys, at work etc.) is fasad. The father who leaves it entirely up to the mother to spend time with and raise the child will end up with a effeminate, silly child. Such a father doesn't know what's going on.
Slow or fast spiritual development of the earnest murid is not a sign of Allah's tawfiq or lack thereof. Some of the greatest masters strove for decades including Imam Abul Hassan. The ways of reaching realization are as varied as personalities; some have it easier than others. In reality all are easy when one considers what is attained!
