Salawat in the Month

Allah, Most High, says, “Surely Allah and His Angels continually send blessings on the Prophet. Oh you who have faith, do send blessings on him and peace in abundance.” [Quran 33.56] One who hopes to develop true faith must involve himself in regular salawat on Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and grant him peace). How many of the ulama must say this before the stubborn nafs takes heed?
We learn from the Qur'an that the Messenger (Allah bless him and grant him peace) does not need our prayers of blessings: Allah Himself blesses him and raises him! Has not Allah legislated salawat or at least the mention of the Holy Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) in virtually every prescribed rite from the adhan to nikah? Rather, those of insight see from the hadith that the true wisdom behind the salawat lies in the benefit gained by the reciter: Allah rewards a person tenfold each time this blessings are sent on him (Allah bless him and grant him peace)!
But sending salawat should not be an empty action, indeed no act of worship should. We would do well to reflect on the Holy Prophet(Allah bless him and grant him peace) and bring him to mind. We should recall his appearance, his noble ways and honored station. We should yearn for his presence (Allah bless him and grant him peace) and know with confidence that he can see our displays of love and yearning and that because of them he (Allah bless him and grant him peace) will supplicate, on our behalf, to our Exalted and Majestic Lord. For he (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, “My life is a great good for you: you will relate about me and it will be related to you. And my death is a great good for you: your actions will be shown to me, and if I see goodness I will praise Allah, and if I see evil I will ask forgiveness of Him for you.” (Al-Bazar)
So in this month, ennobled by his birth, send blessings on him and tire not in doing so!
و الحمد لله رب العالمين
