From the Adab of the Seeker... Imam al-Ghazili

Imam al-Ghazali mentions in his Ihya':

"The third undertaking of a student is not to take pride in the knowledge nor seek a way over the teacher but rather to entrust to him his matter in full and to yield to his advice as an unschooled patient yields to a caring and kind physician... so the student should be to the teacher like arable land met with abundant rain such that it absorbs every bit of it and yields in complete acceptance... So in a word, every student who retains his own opinion and preference over the preference of the teacher is sentenced to failure and loss."
